Australia has moved closer towards constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with the Act of Recognition passing the House of Representatives today.

The Australian Government today took an important step towards recognising Indigenous people in Australia’s Constitution with the introduction of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Recognition Bill 2012 into Parliament.
This Government supports constitutional change to recognise the unique and special place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin today joined with Reconciliation South Australia in Adelaide to launch a kit to help promote constitutional recog
