Forty-one organisations across Australia are sharing in more than $1.4 million from the Gillard Government to help deliver community projects to support Indigenous Australians.
Delivered under the Indigenous Communities Strategic Investment Program, the funding supports community projects such as youth programs, infrastructure upgrades and women’s workshops. Funding includes:
By working in partnership with Indigenous communities, we can deliver much needed support and services that are identified by local people as being in the best interests of their community.
These projects build on the Government’s sustained commitment to combat Indigenous disadvantage across the areas of health, education, employment, and early childhood.
We are delivering improved services, better education opportunities, better houses, and safer and healthier communities, while encouraging a new culture of understanding and respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
Through the Indigenous Communities Strategic Investment Program, the Government will continue to work together with local communities, business and other stakeholders to deliver targeted support that meets the unique needs of different Indigenous communities.
In partnership with Government, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can build stronger communities and brighter futures for their children.
